The staff seem not to like Germans here, and accuse you of not having paid enough (apparently £10 is only worth £1). But service is not why I eat curry, I eat coz I'm a hungry gashing chopper.

I'm sure this place has changed chef's or sommink, it used to do the best madras on earth, but not anymore.

We were the only people in on a Sunday night. The waiter tried to upsell as someone else has said. At least twice I said we were fine with rice and nan but he kept on going on. Very annoying. The food I thought was good. They added a line item of s/c for £4. That was service charge. Yeah I know, I shouldn't have paid it, but they will never get my service again. They even turned up the heating whilst I was eating. Not what you need when eating a spicy curry. I asked him to turn it down and he did so whilst laughing. Does not get my vote because of their service. Shame, you'd think they would try harder as they are hidden off the main road.

I ate there for lunch today, and never would again. The food was good, but seemed quite overpriced. The staff were trying to upsell everything. And at the end they charged us 5 pounds for a bottle of water! When we protested that this was double the normal price they got very rude.

Oh I forgot to mention, the old man who totted up our bill looked like Cab Calloway! The only good thing about this place I'm afraid... Hidey hidey hidey hoo.

Now where to begin...1: when we arrive we find they are running late and we have to wait 40 minutes. 2: the staff could not understand us simply telling them what we would like to eat. 3: The floor upstairs was absolutley covered in just about everything you could imagine on the floor, this is the 21st century and i don't think this place have heard of a hoover. 4: Poppadoms were on time, very enjoyable. 5: We waited at least an hour an a half for our food to arrive, there was only 9 of us, absolute joke, the portions were terrible and the food was so greasy. 6:Service was shocking, did not understand what we asked most of the time, took a ridiculous amount of time to bring drinks to our table. 7: i really can't see why anyone would want to go here. 8: toilets, i think they actually are the bredding ground of the gremlins, just don't go here ever, i'm fortunate to be alive today.... Also one more thing, choose the coffee mug which says jesus, obvious one...

Curry King is seriously bad for your health! This place is so shocking, we pre-booked a table and it wasn't ready, we had to wait an extra 35 minutes for it to become available! We then waited an hour and a half for the food to arrive! When it did arrive, it was disgusting! Greasy and tasteless! The staff are dirty and rude. The toilets were blocked and full of human waste! They then charged us £200! Honestly, don't bother with this place, it is a an absolute hole!

Ok, so we turn up having booked a table for a small group. Unfortunately we were under the impression that it was bring-your-own (as it has been for 5 yrs). Duely chastised, we were sent upstairs to the naughty table and deemed 'students' even though most of us are far too old. Once seated we prepared ourselves by perusing the nice laminated student menu sheet which consists of a few squares containing various curry sauce options and their nan [sic]. Nan King was actually quite tasty. Anyway, before ordering they insist we all pay a tenner upfront. It all felt a bit like a sit-down pub but we obliged. Then they demanded a £10 service charge from us...even though we had not been 'serviced.'Another guy then changed their story and described it as a sort of corkage... We were all so hungry and our expensive bottles of wine could not be consumed elsewhere so we stayed. We received some popadoms quite promptly but no plates to eat from. Result: a lot of mess. I don't know if that's how they do things where they come from but my brown table mate wasn't mpressed either. Go to the Kohinor on Mill Road. They are much nicer there!

Curry King is awful! When we arrived we were seated at a table which wasn't set; the table cloth was curry stained. The poppadoms arrived and were stale. Also, we were provided with no napkins for the entire meal! When the curry finally arrived (45 minute wait) it was dripping in oil. Clearly it had been sat in an oven for a while as there was a nasty greasy film over the top of the main dish. To top it off my stomach has been upset all night. Won't be going again.

Very pleasantly surprised given that this curry house is bottom of the list. I had a very nice lamb jalfreezi and everyone around the table enjoyed their dishes as well. The infamous bad service didn't affect us in the slightest. Service was rapid and polite. The only problem we had was that the portions were a bit small and the plain poppadoms weren't very nice, which might be down to the oil that they were cooked in. The spicy poppadoms were fine.

Terrible food and service. Would rather have a microwave curry! The waiters were rude, moved our plates before we finished and the food was cold. Absolute nightmare - avoid at all costs!

First and last visit to the curry king! As an experienced curry man, this place takes us back 15 years! Poor decor, cramped surroundings, poor service, and food very very average. My curry was floating in a bowl of ghee! But why was this place so busy??!!!! Plenty of better curry houses in this City!

This was the worst curry & service i have ever come across. Asked to wait outside whilst waiting to be seated. poppodums and drinks took about 15 minutes to arrive. Currys were extreamerly small. Covered in corriander. Waiters were rude and abrupt hurried us out. No toilet paper in either toilets. Worst of all my girlfriend awoke in the night being violently sick! We strongly recomend you avoid this "restaurant"!

Oh dear god. I have never even imagined service could be so bad in life, ever, in the world!!! a group of 15 of us, Not one person happy with service, food, or quality. we were upstairs, 3 feet from the bar. 25 Mins for our drinks to arrive. The very aggressive old guy who works there wrestling with my menu to try and show me starters, after i advised him 5 times I didn't want one (happened to a few people). advised by everyone on the table that we wanted 20 poppadoms in total, 10 arriving, no chutney for a further 10 mins, then literally a minute before the main course arrived, 10 more turned up. no time to eat them. they were cleared from the table. AND WE WERE CHARGED FOR THEM.Most of our meals were cold. 3 dishes (2 rice and 1 korma) missing. my biriyani, absolutely covered in Coriander. could taste nothing else. I could go on. sag aloo (a bowl consisting of 1, no exageration, tablespoon) so small it was meant to be shared, but didn't even suit 1 person. Keema naan with no filling (I wish it wasn't true). It could be endless, Nothing good.I had heard this place was bad, but was roped in to going with work. NEVER EVER AGAIN, and it isn't cheap, do not believe the rumour.

Customers beware...the curry king is more like the curry Beggar. Service is terrible, and food if always covered in coriander so you can't taste anything else. Is the guy that runs the place always in a mood and rude to customers? because he was both times i went. Again, stay away!

I could never figure out why people return to this place - the service is truly appalling. One of our group received his dinner 20 minutes after everyone else, and then, since we'd mostly finished eating, was made to leave it as we were chucked out to make room for the next lot. Fortunately even the die-hard fans of the £10 deal are getting fed up now and it's the only place in Cambridge I know of that most of my friends now actually refuse to go back to. I would advise you to take your custom to a restaurant that actually appreciates you for it.

Went here last night. I used to get take out from here regularly and it has always been fantastic, so was quite looking forward to trying it out. The food was great, lovely fresh coriander, really good. But as soon as we had finished eating our plates were whisked away, we were given the bill and after 15 mins told very rudely that we had to leave! We still had full pints of beer, so had to leave them, and there was no chance of not paying for them even though we were told we couldn't drink them. I have never been told to leave a restaurant of any kind before like that, and was really surprised as the service had been good up till then. I was really disappointed (and pretty annoyed), as the food was great. But not worth being hassled like that for.

Contrary to many of my contemporaries I do not mind this place. It is not an outstanding restaurant but it is excellent fo group bookings. Especially as they do a group deal for £10 which actually consists of a lot of food and a drink. In conclusion Service - 5/10 Food - 4/10 and Value - 8/10 passable if you don't want to spend much money or are in a large group, the lager is good.

We hit the Curry King on the 1st after our MCR meeting. They made room for us despite having two birthday parties of 25. The people were nice, but I wouldn't say the service was outstanding but that was understandable due to the increadible business of the night. I had chicken korma and thought it was really good. I've only been in Cambridge since October, but this was the most flovorful of the three CKs I've had. The others in my party had Biyranis (I don't know how to spell it) and one had something I can't remember. Everyone thought there's was particularly tasty. Reading reviews, I wonder if the variences are due to different chefs. Anyways, I enjoyed it and would recommend it based on my experience.

Worst Curry place in Cambridge. We got our poppadoms and then waited about 10 minutes for the chutney to arrive. The waiters are rude and took our plates before we even finished as if they wanted us to leave quick. The food was nothing special anyway. Not recommended.

The service was shocking. They had double booked our table so we were told we had 1/2 an hour to eat our meal. The waiters were rude and removed our plates before we had even finished. The madras was bland, the meat illusive, and the toilets traditional "Dehli" style. Not recomended.

Went back to the Curry King after a long break. CK seems to have an image problem in that for a long while I couldn't find anyone who wanted to go there with me. My memories of the place were good and I was not disappointed when I returned. The curry was very tasty, the service efficient and the atmosphere fine. I also appreciated the variety and choice available on the menu. Recommended.

had three curries here, not one has impressed me. Pretty standard ceylon and Korma, with the worst prawn dishes i've ever had. Not too bad, but not too good either. Pretty standard in all. Service is attentive though.

Oh no! What happened? This was my favourite curry house but last nights meal was bland, the atmosphere was lacking for some reason (was it the music?) and the toilets weren't clean. I had the chicken balti which was absolutely *gorgeous* last time but just chicken in curry sauce this time around :-(

Though we were given 5 extra popadoms, they were still very greasy. The chicken chana, dopiaza and bhuna were bland with very little flavour at all. The atmosphere was good but this was the first generally disappointing curry we've had in Cambridge.

I am not as big a fan of the Curry King as many I know, though I must admit I had an excellent meal here last Friday. We went for the Chicken Shaslik and Chicken Dansak, both of which were very tasty. If only that waiter could have resisted pacing up and down, and rearranging the dishes on our table after we had got them how we wanted... Still, I guess it added local colour.

Probably my favourite Curry house (after the Kismet, which only does takaway!). Perfect chicken balti and the service was excellent considering how busy the place was. It is a tad expensive but worth it in my opinion!

Excellent. Its suprisingly busy for such hidden location. I prefer a busy restaurant as it provides a better atmosphere, but even when this place is packed the service is brilliant. The foods even better. A must if you're down that end of town. I did feel that a couple of the dishes seemed to come from a standard sauce but they did taste very different and very good so I can let them off.

Not a regular haunt of mine but every now and again I like to test places that I haven't been to for a while. I ordered a mushroom biriani and some side dishes. I must say that I was very disapointed with the meal. However the service was good and the bombay potatoe very tasty. I shan't be going back until it gets recommended to me - I hope they were just having a bad night (it was a Thursday after all).

This has become a favourite CamBS-AC ( Cambridge Sub-Aqua Club http://freespace.virgin.net/cambsac.diving ) and we regularly meet here for members birthdays and nights out. The curry and service are fine and the central location next to the car park make it a good meeting point. You won't suffer SCM (spontaneous combustion of the mouth) with their vindaloo but all their dishes are quite tasty.
