Food good, but tandoori mixed grill was quite mean for the price and left me hungry :-( Service good and didn't mind groups of 10-12. For more generous portions try the Nirala.

I had the worst curry I've ever had in this place at the end of 2007. I would avoid. Chicken was revolting.

The Curry Queen used to be the standard bearer for all curry houses in Cambridge - the quality was consistent and high. However, the place seems to have changed hands and has taken a serious nose-dive. The curries are now bland and greasy. Where to go now - average Saffron Brasserie or above average Ghandi??

Good food! Four of us went on Saturday and had quite a range of things from the menu. Puppadums and Onion Bhajee were excellent, all freshly fried. Curries were spicy and hot where they should have been and included plenty of meat. Vegetable side dishes were a bit on the small side but very tasty. Service was swift and unobtrusive. We will certainly be returning!

I visited the Curry Queen on Friday and can confirm the other reviews. The staff where very friendly and polite but the food was terrible. I ordered a mild curry and was served a very hot curry which bore an uncanny resemblance to a thickened version of bisto. What made matters worse was I was woken at 6am the following morning with dreadful cramps and food poisoning. I shall not be returning anytime soon. Avoid.

Went there a couple of weeks ago (Early April 2007), and the food seems to have taken a turn for the worse. It used to (IMO) be the best (and most consistently good) curry on Mill Road, but the food we had (while not unplesant) was rather bland and lacking depth of flavour. Madras lasted more like gravy. All a bit boring. Staff were very friendly, but it does seem like the place has changed hands and gone downhill slightly. Thing I'll change my regular haunt! A.

First review this year for the curry queen, an things have changed. The queen changed hands two months ago( an so does the reputation), so you might wanna forget all reviews past mine. The food, cold an bland, atmosphere, rowdy (you'd expect that from location)the service slow but polite. Things have changed an so should you regulars.Absolutly horrid experience leaving me wishing i'd got a microwave meal from asda.

Our meal started disappointingly with a couple of stale puppadums and some microwaved onion bhajee (despite the waiter assuring me that the bhajee would be freshly fried). But things improved with a tasty Chicken Ceylon and Chicken Biriani and an excellent Naan bread - straight out of the tandoor. The Lime Pilau rice was a bit heavy on the Chickpeas though. A reasonable dining experience - not sure if I'd go out of my way for it though!

Pleasant enough but definitely less cosy/friendly than before. Popadom dips were watery and my Lamb Shatkora was a bit smaller and more "tikka" than expected. The mushroom rice was very nice though, and the service was prompt. I personally don't like it as much as under the old owners, but maybe it just needs some time.

The Curry Queen changed hands about two months ago. The main change is that all the old staff have disappeared and there's less of a friendly, welcoming atmosphere which we always enjoyed before. The food isn't as impressive as it was before. Service is slower and the vegetarian curries seem to be thrown together with less care and attention that before. The curries now swim in a sea of gravy. Although it is still a reasonably standard, it's a shadow of its former self.

An absolutely cracking curry house; sadly quite far away from Cambridge city centre, but fortunately doesn't subscribe to the "you can puke on the tables but the curry's revolting" ethos of the majority of central locations. Outstanding value, even without a student discount, and unless it's absolutely packed out, the service is very good and friendly. Two gripes: the jalfreizi isn't quite as good as the rest of the menu, and the lime pickle is pretty poor. There are few better ways to spend a Saturday night in Cambridge than a lovely curry at the Curry Queen, then a cheeky visit to a few of the nearby pubs.

The Curry Queen remains one of my favourites in Cambridge, its only problem being the distance from the centre. It remains consistently popular with diners yet they cope with the crowds incredibly well. Found the meals to be well flavoured and not just hot.

Having lived on Mill Road for the whole of last year my student house of five people were very glad for the Curry Queen. The food was of a consistently high quality whether eating in or taking away. The Chicken Ceylon is the best I have had anywhere. The service is friendly and not over pushy. 10 years ago the Queen had the reputation of being the best in Cambridge. This is a reputation it still deserves. Oh, and The Live is just round the corner for a pint afterwards.

I went to the Curry Queen two days ago, and must say I am surprised at the number of positive reviews here. Out of approx 10 curry houses visited in Cambridge, I would rank this number 9. We arrived looking for a table for two, and were told to wait by the bar "until I get rid of these people" (gesturing at a table). The service was slow (40 mins between popadums and mains). The chicken madras was extremely watery and weak. My friend had lamb biryani, which he described as "totally flavourless". The naan breads came with a huge puddle of grease in the middle, and the sag aloo consisted of 3 huge, hard lumps of potato with some spinach uncaringly chucked on top. The lime pickle also contained something which seemed to be made of plastic or concrete or some other indestructable substance. Not impressed!

I had a pleasant time on my first visit here. Good food, friendly staff, and a nice atmosphere. The Chicken Pakora was maybe slightly lacking flavour, but the Dansak was quite tasty.

I have been going to the Queen for years, and it s always the same - damn good. THe CQ manage to maintain a very good quality of dishes, they retain staff, and it semms the clients. If you want a good curry with good service, then this is the place.

We've always had great food here and the staff are extremely helpful - especially when we took Shane's parents there. Curry is not big in the Irish Republic and the suggestions from the waiter persuaded them to try something a bit more adventurous than a korma. Shane likes the hot towels and oranges so much that I've even managed to get them supplied with take-aways. And having picked up their number from this website, I'm off to order a curry...

A superb restaurant. My family have kept coming back here for over 15 years, because we find its food and service unrivalled in Cambridge.

Very mediocre curry in my opinion and the parathas are bad. However, the service is good and they have Dortmunder lager on draught which is very pleasant change. Good for large groups, bu if there's only a few of you I'd probably go across the road to the Golden Curry.

Superb flavoursome dishes on my last two visits (my co-diner and I had a chicken tikka and a chicken pasanda IIRC). Decent lager and prompt service. Real towels and oranges -- classy!Top of the list for me in the last 12 months.

Not at all impressed (although I haven't been for a couple of years). There's no non-smoking area, and my friend ordered a vegetarian curry which arrived with chicken bits in. They took it away and brought back a few seconds later what was clearly the same dish, but with the chicken removed.

Went there with a large group of 20 on a Wednesday evening.I was impressed by the way the restaurant coped with sucha large group. Service was friendly and attentive and we did not seem to have to wait that long to get our food delivered. A pleasant environment to eat in too. Pops andpickles fine. Tandoori chicken starter perhaps a tad on thedry side, but tasted good and there were some juicy bits too. Delicious nan. Bit disappointed with the curry. I had the Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi, which was OK butdid not have that wow-thats-yummy factor. I also tend to prefer drier (less sauce) jalfrezis. No dishes came in the hot black sizzling dishes, which I always take (perhaps wrongly) of lovingly cooked individual portions. No muzak - but the animated and illuminated waterfall scene had the same effect of unwillingly grabbing your attention when you first become aware of it.

Since the last review was written there's been an across-the-board price hike carried out. However, it's still worth a visit and the food is of an above average standard. Very friendly staff too.

A favourite with those looking for a fast and cheap curry. Good fun atmosphere and a curry that meets the required standard. But if you like to pay a little more to keep out the riff-raff and for a slightly 'richer' curry, I suggest you nip accoss the road to the Golden Curry.
