ALWAYS RELIABLE, FRIENDLY, HUMEROUS SERVICE AND GOOD RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT.

First visit here ever. Pretty solid fare. Nothing particularly special but then nothing too bad either. Naan was perhaps a little dry, mind. It's good that Cambridge - or anywhere for that matter - has such places. Quite often a reasonable, straightforward curry is just what is required. Some places can try too hard and can overwork the dishes to create something that is just too rich, or unpleasant, or possibly something that is no longer even curry - more perhaps some sort of designer cuisine.

Despite what I just read here, I've yet to be offended by disgusting drunks or even people smoking whilst I'm eating, but I dare say it happens here as elsewhere. This is a cheap-and-cheerful curry house which costs generally less than £20 a head including beer & tip. Most times the Taj is reasonably full, which is always a good sign for a place so far out of the main stream. The menu's the usual Brit curry fare, but it's served politely and accurately. On the occasions when they have fumbled the order, some free food has been the result. The different curries look and taste different. The vegatables aren't overcooked and can be excellent if you're lucky. They used to serve draft Cobra (or Kingfisher or Lal Toofan; can't remember), but on my last visit it was Carlsberg on draft or bottles of Lal Toofan only.A good place for an efficient cheap curry.

The food on the curry trip night was generally OK but nothing special. My chicken khorai was edible but the sauce was a bit bland and the chicken watery/tasteless. One person has a vegetarian dish that he thought was good so maybe this is more of a place for vegetarians?Service was a bit slow in that we were left 20 minutes before being asked for our full order. They would have probably got another round off us if they had asked for drink and popadom orders when we sat down.

An old favourite of mine, and I can recommend it for vegetarians as I was a vegetarian when I haunted it most often. Still today the food is cheaper than many of the more central places and a hell of a lot tastier. Friendly staff. Complementary poppadoms in the takeaway bag and sometimes more if they've had to keep you waiting. (I probably shouldn't say that as someone is bound to be disappointed when they don't get that treatment, but it's certainly taken the edge off some long-wait irritations for me once or twice.)

The Taj Tandorri is a fantastic place. Vegetable Cylon, Dall Samba, both supreme. My girlfiend had Tandorri Chicken, she devowered it with passion. The Onion Bhajis were a little greasy, but by no means rough. Most enjoyable.Nice staff and good atmosphere. If you are a resident of Cherry Hinton. DON'T go to the appalling SITAR, take the trip up Cherry Hinton Rd. And hit the TAJ. EAT and be bloated.

A personal curry mecca - the only place I have ever had a 'phall with abuse'. Imagine a group of 10 very drunk men on a stag night going in just before the chief wants to go home. We were loud, abusive, feet on their tables, drinking our own booze, spliffs being lit while we waited for our food. I have never had a hotter curry before or since, and that was tasting it through a protective layer of alchohol. I salute you, Taj Tandoori. On a general note, I have also been there many times without the 'stags' and the food is good quality, the staff very friendly. If only I had the bottle to abuse the chief when I am sober!
